Weighing in on everything from avocados to Zimbabwe

Biography

Greetings! Thanks for stopping by my corner of the world.
Leila, circa 1984.
Back in the old days, I was a happy, soccer-playing kid who did well in school, ran around in the woods, and tried to mother my three brothers. Eventually, I enjoyed stints as a violist, public-access TV producer, contradancer, math major, Peace Corps volunteer, high school math teacher, and student all over again. I am a lifelong learner, and I like to keep my body and mind active.
Same goofy smile, circa 2014.
These days, I am a (bio)statistician, a kidney nerd, a reader, a runner (#oisellevolee), a cook and a baker (there's a difference!), a musician, a gardener, and an occasional blogger. I'm working on it, though to be honest lately I've spent more time obsessing over form and layout than on content. I mostly started this blog as a way to keep friends and family apprised of my movements during a month-long trip to Zimbabwe in February 2014 to study mbira; now I appreciate it as a forum for the occasional foray into non-statistical writing. Plus, my mom likes reading it.

I also interact with the virtual world via email (loggyleila [obvious symbol] gmail dot com) and on Twitter (@loggyleila) -- feel free to drop me a line!
